The UCF Board of Trustees last month approved the extension, which would last through April 12, 2026, but the university system board would need to sign off on it.
Cartwright has served as UCF president since April 2020.
In a letter supporting the extension, UCF Board of Trustees Chairman Alex Martins said Cartwright “has demonstrated transformational leadership, exceptional vision, and an unwavering commitment to advancing UCF as Florida’s premier engineering and technology university.”
