TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A careless driving citation issued to former Titusville Police Chief John Lau following a rollover crash earlier this year has been dropped.
The single-vehicle crash occurred on June 23 on Barna Avenue and led to Lau’s termination after he refused to submit to a blood draw, a violation of city policy.
According to Titusville police, a bottle of Ketel One vodka was found at the crash scene. However, the Florida Highway Patrol said Lau showed no signs of impairment during its investigation.
Court records show Lau pleaded no contest to a charge of possessing an open container in a vehicle and was ordered to pay a $169 fine.
The careless driving citation was dismissed.
Lau was previously fired from his position as police chief following the city’s review of the incident.
