CENTRAL FLORIDA — A tropical disturbance in the southwestern Gulf is slowly organizing, and the threat of tropical development is increasing.

The disturbance, now designated Invest 92L, is located in the Bay of Campeche in the far southwestern Gulf.

This system is expected to continue organizing as it slowly drifts eastward.

Invest 92L will likely become a tropical depression by midweek and could strengthen into a tropical storm by late week.

The National Hurricane Center is giving this area an 80% chance of development.

The system is anticipated to lift northward toward the northern Gulf Coast by this weekend.

Interests along the northern Gulf Coast should monitor future forecasts.

For Central Florida, Invest 92L is expected to remain well west of the area, but indirect impacts are possible.

If the system drifts far enough east, increased moisture could bring higher chances of rain and storms to the region.

A farther west track would result in drier conditions across Central Florida.
