OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Two parents were arrested early Sunday after their 2-year-old toddler was found wandering alone in the middle of a road late Saturday night on Jones Road, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested 36-year-old Johnny Jean-Baptiste and 32-year-old Stacia McMillian after the child was found unharmed.
A passing driver noticed the toddler, wearing only a diaper and a tank top, walking down the middle of Jones Road near Talisi Loop at 11:39 pm Saturday night.
The driver quickly exited her vehicle, brought the scared and crying child to safety, and called 911.
Responding deputies went door-to-door in the neighborhood to locate where the child belonged. They discovered an open front door at a home at 637 Talisi Loop, but no one was inside.
Deputies attempted to call the residents listed at the address. A deputy reached Jean-Baptiste on his cell phone, but he hung up. At 12:36 a.m. Sunday, Jean-Baptiste and McMillian arrived back at the residence, driving a Toyota Corolla.
Deputies reported that both parents were uncooperative at the scene. Jean-Baptiste and McMillian were arrested and booked into the Osceola County jail, each charged with one count of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident, and a family member took custody of the toddler.
