OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Three people died and seven others were taken to hospitals Monday morning after a van crossed into oncoming traffic on State Road 60, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:29 a.m. west of Peavine Road and involved a Chevrolet Express van, a Ram 1500 pickup and a Toyota Corolla.

Troopers said the van was heading west when it went off the right side of the road onto the shoulder for an unknown reason.

The driver overcorrected to the left, sending the van into the eastbound lane and into the path of the pickup. The front left sides of the two vehicles collided.

The van then began overturning toward the eastbound shoulder and struck the Corolla, which had been traveling behind the pickup, troopers said.

Three people in the van killed

The van’s driver, a 52-year-old Miami man, and two male passengers died at the scene. One of those passengers was 22. Troopers were awaiting positive identification of the other passenger.

Three other passengers in the van suffered serious injuries: a 30-year-old man, a 34-year-old Golden Glades man and a 26-year-old Pompano Beach man.

The pickup’s driver, a 52-year-old Lakeland man, suffered serious injuries. His passenger, a 47-year-old Lakeland woman, suffered critical injuries.

The Corolla’s driver, a 34-year-old Haines City man, suffered minor injuries. His passenger was also taken to a hospital, but the report did not specify that person’s injuries. Troopers were awaiting the passenger’s identification information.

Crash remains under investigation

The injured were taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, Osceola Regional Medical Center and Indian River Memorial Hospital, according to FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
