Body of missing 7-year-old boy with autism found in Volusia County pond, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A search for a missing 7-year-old boy ended in tragedy Tuesday morning.

10:05 a.m. update:

Volusia County deputies confirmed the body of Charlie Newton was found in a pond near the home where he went missing.

The boy’s tragic death comes after other local children have drowned this month.

A 5-year-old boy with autism drowned in a pond near a park in Osceola County on Nov. 13.

A 4-year-old boy with autism drowned in a lake at a park in Ormond Beach on Nov. 17.

Volusia County deputies are searching for a missing 7-year-old boy who has autism and ran off from home Monday night.

Charlie is non-verbal and may be attracted to Christmas lights as well as bodies of water. He has also been known to climb up trees.

Charlie ran north on Stillwater Avenue, Deltona, around 8 p.m.

He was wearing a black T-shirt and white shorts.

Deputies are searching the area and bringing in resources to help.
